History
The name of the village is associated with the river Zhezhelka flowing through it ( Boteput tributary).
In the XIX century, the village had a stone church of St. Michael the Archangel (the time of its foundation and founder is not known), with limits in the name of St. Nicholas and St. Nifont, the Bishop of Novgorod. The first of these chapels, in 1857, was distributed and updated at the expense of landowner Alexandra Alekseevna Strekalova, the second due to the small capacity of the church was closed. The population of the parish of the temple was (1885) of 401 males and 444 females.
Before the stone in the village there was a wooden church (in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker), it is not known when abolished.
In addition to stone (cold), the village was still wooden (warm), with one throne, in the name of the Sign of the Mother of God, built in 1877 at the expense of the landowner of the same village Lyubov Stefanovna Borozdny.
