Biography

Orthodox. From the nobility of St. Petersburg province.

He graduated from the 2nd St. Petersburg Military Gymnasium (1864) and the 1st Military Pavlovsk School in the 1st category (1866), from where he was released as second lieutenant to the 120th Infantry Serpukhov Regiment . The following year he was transferred to the Life Guards Moscow Regiment .

Ranks: Warrant Officer of the Guard (1867), Second Lieutenant (1870), Lieutenant (1872), Staff Captain (1874), Captain (1878), Colonel (for distinction, 1883), Major General (for distinction, 1893), General lieutenant (for distinction, 1901), general from infantry (1905).

He participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 . For the difference in business when crossing the Balkans, he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th art. with swords and a bow, and for the difference in the battle of Mountain Dubnyak - the Order of St. Stanislav of the 2nd art. with swords. He was also awarded the Golden Arms “For Courage” .

In 1879, he was appointed as an orderly to the chief of staff of the guard forces and the St. Petersburg military district, and in 1881 - as an orderly, and then an adjutant to the commander of the Guards Corps . In 1885 he was appointed adjutant to the prince of Oldenburg , and since 1893 he was under His Highness.

Then he held the post of Lomzhinsky governor (1896-1897). Since March 15, 1897 he was the director of the Imperial School of Law . In 1902-1905 he was at the disposal of the Minister of War.

In 1905 he was dismissed from service with the production of generals-from-infantry. On January 18, 1911 he returned to the service of the rank of Infantry General with the appointment of the guardian council of the institutions of Empress Maria as the honorary guardian of the St. Petersburg presence. In May 1915 he was also appointed senator .

He died on April 19, 1917 in Petrograd. He was married to Lydia Georgievna Kuvel.
