Club career
Corey Crawford has played in the Quebec Junior League since 2001 for the Moncton Wildcats . In 2003, in the second round of the NHL draft, he was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks club and after that, having spent two more seasons for the Wildcats, Corey moved to the Chicago farm club - Norfolk Edmirals from the AHL . In the same season, Crawford made his debut in the NHL . He replaced the injured [2] Nikolai Khabibulin in a match with Minnesota Wild on January 22, 2006. Chicago goalkeeper Adam Munro conceded three goals in less than two periods and Crawford went out to play the match in goal. For the remaining time, he repelled seven shots on his goal and did not miss a single goal [2] . From the first minutes of the game, Crawford came out 10 days later, on February 2, against the St. Louis Blues . In that match, he missed five goals after 34 shots and hit one of three shoot-outs [3] .
Crawford spent the next season in the AHL, playing for Norfolk.
In mid-February 2008, Corey Crawford was again called up to the main team to replace the injured Khabibulin [4] [5] . In five games of that season, he twice replaced during the game Patrick Lalima , who missed five goals [6] [7] . On March 5, 2008, in a game against Anaheim Ducks [8], Crawford won his first victory and made the first shutout in the NHL, reflecting all 19 shots on his goal [9] .
On July 22, 2008, Corey Crawford extended the contract with Chicago for one year [10] , and a year later for another two [11] . In the seasons 2008/09 and 2009/10, the competition for the Chicago goalie position was very large. The team had such masters as Khabibulin, Cristobal Yue and Antti Niemi , so Crawford rarely got into the application for the match and in two years he played in only one game.
In the 2010/11 season, the Chicago leadership decided to make Crawford the main goalkeeper, and the experienced Marty Turko , who had previously played for the Dallas Stars , was taken as a substitute for it [12] . The Blackhawks, who defended the Stanley Cup title, lost seven games in the first round of the Vancouver Canucks playoffs, but Crawford received good marks from his head coach Joel Kenneville [13] [14] . At the end of the season, Corey entered the symbolic team of the best newcomers [15] .
May 19, 2011 Crawford signed a new contract with Chicago, designed for three years. The amount of the contract was $ 8 million [16] . Its signing was a priority for the club management [17] .
In the 2012/13 season , Chicago won the Stanley Cup for the second time in four years, and Corey Crawford played all the playoff matches without replacements. Over the regular season, he along with Ray Emery received the William M. Jennings Trophy - a pair of goalkeepers who missed the least goals; in the vote for the title of the best goalkeeper of the season (“ Vezina Trophy ”), Crawford took eighth place [18] . On September 4, 2013, Crawford extended the contract with the club until 2020 [19] [20] .
Team
For the Canadian national team, Corey Crawford has never played - both for the main , and for youth and youth. But in mid-July 2013, he was on an extended list of candidates for a trip to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games [21] . In addition to Crawford, there were four other goalkeepers on the list - Carey Price , Roberto Luongo , Mike Smith and Braden Holtby . The first three went to the Olympics. He was involved in the World Cup in hockey, where he played one match against the European team.
