Game career
Canadian player of Ukrainian origin Tony Lesvik was born in Humboldt ( Saskatchewan ), where he began playing in the local junior hockey league in the teams Saskatoon Dodgers and Saskatoon Quakers. In 1942, he signed his first professional contract with the Cleveland Barons American Hockey League team.
In 1943, Lesvik was called up to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces . After the end of World War II , he signs a contract with the New York Rangers . In the 1946/47 season, he scored 27 goals - this is his best result in a career in the NHL .
In 1951, Leswick was traded at the Detroit Red Wings for Gay Stewart . For 4 seasons in Detroit, he won the Stanley Cup 3 times. On April 16, 1954, Lesvik scored probably the most memorable goal for himself. In the seventh game of the final series, Detroit played with the Montreal Canadiens , the main time of the match ended in a draw, it was the fifth minute of overtime. Lesvik rolled onto the shift and threw the puck towards Jerry McNeill's goal. Doug Harvey from the Canadiens tried to catch the puck, but the puck ricocheted off his glove and flew into the Montreal goal. The disoriented McNeil could no longer help, and Lesvik, who did not understand anything, found himself in the arms of partners.
In 1955, Lesvik won the third Stanley Cup with Detroit, after which he was traded to the Chicago Black Hawks . In the 1956/57 season, he joined the Edmonton Flyers rival club in the NHL Western Hockey League . Lesvik spent the 1959/60 season in Vancouver Canucks (ZHL) and ended his career at the end of the season.
