Russian-Omani relations are bilateral diplomatic relations between Russia and Oman .

September 26, 1985 between the USSR and the Sultanate of Oman were established diplomatic relations .
In 1987, Omani [1] and Soviet [2] embassies were opened in Moscow and Muscat respectively.
In 1991, Oman officially recognized the Russian Federation as the successor of the Soviet Union.
Contacts at state and regional levels
Inter-parliamentary relations are developing: the leaders of both chambers of the Federal Assembly of Russia and the Council of Oman exchange visits and written messages.
Between Russia and Oman, there is a regular exchange of delegations between the governments of the two countries, chambers of commerce, state and private companies.
On the basis of the ministerial protocol signed in 1991, regular political consultations are held at the level of deputy heads of foreign affairs agencies [3] .
Oman is visited by delegations of the Russian regions, contacts are established between the mayors of Moscow and Muscat.
Relationship Aspects
Legal aspect
The most important bilateral Russian-Omani agreements are the following:
- Intergovernmental Agreement on Air Traffic ( 1993 );
- Intergovernmental Agreement on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation ( 1994 );
- Agreement on the interaction of chambers of commerce and industry (1994);
- Agreement on cooperation between ITAR-TASS and the Oman Information Agency ( 1995 );
- Agreement on cooperation in the field of science, culture and education ( 1996 ).
The parties are considering projects of other bilateral agreements relating to cooperation in the trade and economic, financial, humanitarian and scientific and technical fields [4] .
The economic aspect
The trade turnover between Russia and Oman in 2010 amounted to $ 13.2 million. A number of Russian companies carry out contract and service work in the oil and gas complex of Oman.
In December 2010, in Muscat, for the first time in the history of bilateral relations, a presentation of Russian business was held with the participation of more than 20 Russian companies working in the fields of information security, oil and gas exploration and production, radio electronics, shipbuilding, pipe production and agricultural machinery.
In May 2006, it was created, and in June 2011, the Russian-Omani Business Council was reorganized in order to enhance direct contacts between representatives of the business circles of the two countries [5] .
Humanitarian aspect
The most active development has been the Russian-Omani interaction in the field of education, culture and tourism. Since 1996, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation annually grants scholarships to study Omani students in Russian universities in various specialties.
At the University of Sultan Qaboos (Muscat) and other educational institutions of Oman, Russian teachers work on the basis of individual contracts. In October 2011, a University delegation visited a number of Russian universities.
The Russian-Omani interfaith dialogue is maintained. In Moscow in 2007, the first collection of articles on tolerance and interfaith solidarity “Tolerance. Experience of Russia and the Sultanate of Oman " [6] .
In September 2013, an international conference “Russian-Oman Relations” [7] was held at MGIMO (U) as part of the Days of Omani Culture in Russia.
Cooperation in the field of tourism is developing. Oman is visited annually approx. 6 thousand citizens of the Russian Federation.
As part of the fight against piracy and armed robbery off the coast of Somalia, Russian warships make calls to the Oman ports of Muscat and Salalah .
