Yuri Sergeyevich Plekhanov ( May 20, 1930 , Moscow - July 10, 2002 ) - Soviet party and statesman, lieutenant general , from 1983 to 1990 the head of the ninth department of the KGB of the USSR , from 1990 to 1991 the head of the security service of the KGB of the USSR , accused of " case of the State Emergency Committee ” [1] .

Biography
Born May 20, 1930 in Moscow . [one]
Member of the CPSU since 1957. [one]
In 1960 he graduated from the Moscow State Correspondence Pedagogical Institute , with a degree in history teacher. After he was at the Komsomol and party work. [one]
Since 1964 - referent of the Central Committee of the CPSU . [one]
Since 1965 - Secretary of the Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU Yuri Andropov . [2]
In 1967-1970 he was a senior officer in the reception of the Chairman of the KGB of the USSR . [one]
From October 12, 1970 to March 1983 - head of the twelfth Directorate of the KGB of the USSR . [one]
In 1981 he was awarded the military rank of lieutenant general . [one]
From March 24, 1983 to February 27, 1990, he was head of the ninth department of the KGB of the USSR, and simultaneously from December 1987, he was a member of the board of the KGB of the USSR.
From February 1990 to August 22, 1991 - head of the Security Service of the KGB of the USSR, member of the board of the KGB of the USSR [1] [3]
August 18-22, 1991 during the August putsch , actively participated and supported the Emergency Committee ; after his defeat was arrested.
In the GKChP case, he was kept in Sailing Detention Center Sailor’s silence , was stripped of his rank and awards (on July 10, 2002, on the day of his death, by decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin was reinstated in rank and in awards). [one]
In December 1992, released from custody [4] . February 23, 1994 by the decision of the State Duma , amnestied with all participants in the "case of the State Emergency Committee." [one]
During his retirement from 1994-2002, he was not noticed in public and commercial activities.
He died on July 10, 2002, was buried at the Kuntsevo cemetery [5] .
