History
The women's volleyball team Olympia ( Ravenna ) was formed in 1965 . In the early years, she performed in regional championships, and in 1974 made her debut in series C of the Italian championship . Subsequently, in a record time, Olimpia rose to the top division and in the 1976/1977 season made its debut in Serie A of the Italian Championship, where it took 5th place. In 1980, Olympia came under the patronage of Diana Doks and in 1981 became the champion of Italy for the first time, and in 1982 it repeated its success.
In 1982, the Ferruzzi industrial group became a club sponsor. The team changes its name to Olympia Theodora ( Theodora is a brand of oil). All the 1980s in the Italian women's club volleyball were held under the hegemony of Olympia Theodora, whose coach was Sergio Guerra. From 1980 to 1992, the team from Ravenna became the champion of Italy 11 times in a row, 6 times the Cup winner , twice the European Champions Cup and in 1992 the world champion among clubs . Between March 1985 and December 1987, Olympia Theodora won 72 consecutive victories in the Italian championship. The team was the base team for Italy , the leaders of which in particular were such volleyball players from Ravenna as Liliana Bernardi and Monica Benelli
Since the beginning of the 1990s, a gradual decline in the team’s results began, associated with a change of generations, a refusal to support the club from the main sponsor and the emergence of new serious rivals. In 1996, the team even left the A1 series, but returned a year later. Basically, Ravenna took places at the bottom of the standings of the Italian championship. Some splash occurred in the 2000/2001 season, when the team took 2nd place in the regular season and dropped out of the fight for the Scudetto in the playoff semi-finals, winning bronze medals. Before the 2004/2005 season, the team from Ravenna refused to participate in the A1 series due to financial problems and dropped only to the B2 series, and in 2007 to the D series. In 2012–2014, Theodora played in the C series of the Italian championship, from 2014 - in series B2, in 2016-2017 - in series B1.
The Italian Championship among the teams of the B1 series ended with the victory of Theodora. Thus, the team raised its status to A2 series with the prospect of returning to the number of the country's strongest teams (A1 series) [1] . The name is changed to Olympia Theodora. The first season after a long break in Series A2, the team from Ravenna did not bring success - only 11th place out of 17 participating teams. Olimpia Theodora showed a slightly better result in the 2018/19 (A2) championship - 9th place among 18 teams.
