Ilya Mikhailovich Ivanov (1924-1997) - Soviet soldier, participant in the Great Patriotic War , foreman , mortar crew commander of the 1159th Infantry Regiment, 351st Infantry Division, 1st Guards Army, 4th Ukrainian Front , full cavalier of the Order of Glory (1944, 1945, 1951). Biography
Born on August 10, 1924 in a working class family in the city of Torez (at that time - Chistyakovo), Donetsk region , Ukrainian SSR . By nationality - Russian. He entered school in 1933, where he studied until September 1941.
As a high school student, he was mobilized to the labor front in September 1941 for the construction of defensive structures near the Gaichur station of the Zaporozhye region ( Ukrainian SSR ). He returned from the labor front in Chistyakov , which was already occupied by the Nazi invaders. Hiding from theft to Germany, living with his parents until September 1943.
After the liberation of the city of Chistyakovo in September 1943, he joined the army as a volunteer, underwent monthly training studying small arms (a rifle, machine gun, Maxim machine gun ) and arrived with the marching company in the 14th brigade of the 4th Stalingrad mechanized corps.
During the spring of 1944 he participated in hostilities with the rank of foreman of a machine gun company as part of the 902th Infantry Regiment, the 248th Infantry Division. The first order of Glory of the 3rd degree (order No. 484873 dated April 16, 1944) was received for selfless actions in the battle on March 11, 1944 in the area of the village of Koshara (Borislavl district of the Kherson region of the Ukrainian SSR), when he rolled out the Maxim machine gun on his own initiative to an open position and flanking fire thwarted the German attack. He was wounded and after the battle he was sent to the hospital, he did not know that he was presented for the award of the Order of Glory.
After recovery, he was assigned to the 1159th Infantry Regiment of the 351st Infantry Division, where he fought until victory in the post of mortar crew.
The second time he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree for the battle near the village of Stretava (22 km east of the city of Treisov, Slovakia) on November 25, 1944. The mortar crew under his command excelled in suppressing German firing points, which tried to impede the advance of Soviet infantry across the water line. Petty Officer Ivanov was again injured, but did not leave the battle.
After undergoing treatment, he was sent to the old part and again proved himself in military operations in Czechoslovakia , near the village of Mokranets on January 9, 1945, when he killed at least 12 enemy soldiers with precision mortar fire. A little later, on January 12, 1945, to the west of Brdo, he was again wounded, but continued to carry out his duties. As a result of this, by Order No. 19194 of May 8, 1945, Sergeant Ivanov Ilya Mikhailovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
After the final victory in June 1945, he took part in a parade on Red Square and in the same year was demobilized (11/22/1945) from the armed forces of the Soviet Union. Thus, having been awarded the three Orders of Glory, he was not a full gentleman. The situation was corrected by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 20, 1951, in order to re-appoint Ivanov Ilya Mikhailovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree (No. 2301).
Before retiring, he worked as a teacher in the city of Torez, Donetsk region, and died on August 7, 1997. In addition to the Orders of Glory, he was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and medals.
