Biography

He was a blacksmith by profession. He took part in the Civil War in Finland , fought on the side of the Reds , was sentenced to 3 years in prison, but soon the sentence was canceled. In 1921, he moved to Helsinki, where he began working as a car driver and engaged in wrestling at the Helsingin Jyry club. [2]

In 1922 he became the second in the championship of the Finnish Workers' Federation, in 1923 he won in this championship and went to the first international tournament in Riga, where he also became the champion. In 1925, he remained second at the European Championships, in 1926 he won the Championship of Finland.

At the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, he fought in the weight category up to 75 kilograms (average weight). The fight lasted 20 minutes and if the winner was not revealed at this time, an additional 6-minute round of fighting in the stalls was appointed. The tournament was held according to the system with the elimination of the fight for the champion title after two defeats. 17 athletes fought in the category. [3]
