Geography

Dakoro is located in the south of Niger, in the Sahel . It borders with the communes of Azagor in the north and Byrney-Lalle in the west, south and east. Acacias and balanites grow mainly on local desert soils.

The climate is very hot and arid.

Administratively, the city is divided into 14 districts. In addition to them, the commune of Dakoro includes several dozen villages, villages and townships. Districts: Abadzhi 1, Abadzhi 2, Balaka, Dan-Bako-Allassane, Hashima-Shipkau, Kurmi, Magagin-Gari, Administrative Quarter, Rubukawa, Sabon-Gari-Mahaman, Takal-Maua, Tsuna, Zongon-Magugu and Zongon-Sallah [2] .

History

Dakoro was founded in the 1890s . representatives of the people of Haus , who came from the regions of the current Agadez and Tahoua . In 1960 , after independence was acquired by Niger , the city became the center of the district of the same name [3] , from 1964 - the district [4] , from 1998 - the department .

Population

As of 2010, the population of Dakoro was 56,958 people, of which 28,434 were men and 28,524 women [1] . Representatives of different nations live in the city, the most numerous are Tuareg and Fulbe .

Economy

The main sectors of the local economy are agriculture and trade. In the vicinity of the city, millet , sorghum and cow peas (cowpea) are grown. The lack of lands useful for human activity leads to conflicts between sowers and livestock breeders. In the center of Dakoro operates a livestock market. The trade relations of the city are extended to the north - to Libya , and to the south - through Diffu , Gora and Maradi in Nigeria [5] . The main food markets are in the villages of Gugu and Intuila. Since 1998, the Blacksmith and Handicraft Center has been operating.

Route 30 passes through the city and goes to Shadakori in the department of Gidan Rumdzhi where it connects to the highway number 1.
