TEFI is the Russian national television award for the highest achievements in the field of television arts. Established by the Academy of Russian Television Foundation on October 21, 1994 [1] . The award was supposed to be the Russian equivalent of the American Emmy television award.

To participate in the competition "TEFI — 2002", works produced and first broadcast in Russia during the period from June 1, 2001 to May 31, 2002, were accepted [2] .
Content
Ceremony
The eighth award ceremony was held on January 31, 2003 in the State Central Concert Hall "Russia" [3] . The originally planned date of the ceremony - October 25, 2002 - was postponed due to the terrorist act on Dubrovka (the seizure of the musical “Nord-Ost”) [4] . There were no permanent presenters announcing the prize winners [5] . The preparation and broadcasting of the television version of the award ceremony was performed by the TV channel “ Russia ” [6] .
