Biography
He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Central University of Venezuela. Subsequently, he graduated from the Department of International and Public Relations at Columbia University (USA).
In 1950, he joined the underground youth wing of the Democratic Action political party. which led an active struggle with the regime of President Perez Jimenez .
- 1955 - was forced to emigrate to Cuba, spent several months in a local prison during the reign of Fulgencio Batista ,
- 1958 - returns to his homeland after the overthrow of the dictatorship of Jimenez,
- 1959-1964 - Member of the National Congress
- 1961-1963 - Ambassador to Yugoslavia,
- 1965-1966 - Director of the Central Information Office,
- 1968 - founded the state publishing house Monte Ávila Editores. For nineteen years he was director of the National Institute of Culture and Arts (INCIBA),
- 1974-1977 - Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the UN,
- 1977-1979 and 1985-1988 - Foreign Secretary,
- 1984-1985 - Head of the Venezuelan Presidential Administration,
- 1988-1989 - Minister of Internal Affairs,
- 1989-1994 - Venezuelan Ambassador to the USA,
- 1997 - Chairman of the Foreign Relations Advisory Committee of the National Congress.
Then he was actively engaged in journalism and writing. Since 2005, he headed the Venezuelan Biographical Library, which publishes books about prominent people in Venezuela. in 2008, along with a number of other intellectuals, he was one of the founders of the 2 D.
