Initially, on the site of the villa was a baroque conservatory. Pavel Yanak , the author of the architectural design of the villa, retained the central part of the greenhouse, integrating it into his project. The villa was built in 1937–38 for Edward Benes . The presidents of Czechoslovakia lived in it until the 90s, so the Royal Garden and the objects around Grad were closed to the public. Only Vaclav Havel opened them.
