History
After two professional teams, Tampa Bay Bakkiers and Tampa Bay Raudis , appeared in Tampa in the 1970s, St. Petersburg authorities also decided to compete for the emergence of a professional team in their city, namely Major League Baseball Club . In early 1983, the construction of a baseball stadium or multi-functional arena was proposed. Due to the hot and humid summers, as well as frequent storms in the city, it was decided to build a domed stadium, the construction of which began in 1986. The new stadium was called the Florida Sancoast Dome. After the construction, the city authorities tried to negotiate with the owners of the Chicago White Sox club about the team moving to their city, as the club management could not agree with Chicago on the construction of a new arena for them. In 1989, the Chicago and Illinois authorities agreed to build a new stadium for the club (now known as US Cellar Field ), so negotiations to move the club ended.
