Story
A chance meeting between Nikolai and Nina, a friend from the past, forces Nikolai to return to an abandoned hotel in which, many years ago, he experienced his only love, full of tragedy and an overwhelming feeling. The film is a story of love balancing on the verge of life and death, joy and loss, the sacrifices that a sentient soul can bring for the sake of high feeling. The film is a confrontation between an open, ready for flights and follies, the Russian soul and restrained Dutch nature.
The action takes place in three temporary spaces: the end of the nineteenth, the beginning and the middle of the twentieth century.
Middle-aged Nikolai returns to Germany to lay flowers on the grave of Eliza, his only love, which he carried in his heart after half a century. The old hotel again immerses him in a whirlpool of feelings and memories. Nikolai recalls the first time he saw Eliza, a kept woman of the old count. It was love at first sight. But love is destructive, destructive. Different social status, opportunities, illness - all this does not stop the main characters. And Nikolai will return to the hotel again and again, even when there will be no one to wait for him.
