Biography
From an Old Believer family of an honorary citizen . Together with 10 brothers, co-owner of a weaving factory in St. Petersburg ( Zhdanovskaya street ).
In 1897 he graduated from college at the church, studied at the University of Leipzig and Munich . Since 1902 he was under police surveillance. Member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party . In 1904, revolutionary literature was discovered during the arrest, released on bail. He was sent abroad.
He married Zlata Bentsionovna Becker (1881-1979) [2] [3] , her father was a wealthy Odessa merchant Bentsion-Anchl Becker. Zlata was baptized with the name of Eugene Borisovna. In 1905, their son Vasily , who later became the world famous economist, Nobel laureate in economics, was born in Munich [4] .
Returning to Russia, Vasily Leontyev Sr. taught economics at first at Yuryevsky and then at St. Petersburg Universities [5] .
In 1917, he was a private assistant professor. Mandatory candidate of the Party of Socialist Revolutionaries to the Constituent Assembly. Elected to the All-Russian Constituent Assembly in the Novgorod Electoral District according to list No. 4 (Socialist-Revolutionaries) [6] . Member of the meeting of the Constituent Assembly on January 5, 1918.
In the mid-1920s, he joined the People’s Commissariat of Finance. During a business trip to Berlin, he became a defector. In the 1930s, he moved to the United States with his wife [7] .
The wife of Vasily Leontiev (son) Estel Marx wrote a biography of her husband’s parents “Genya and Vasily” [8] .
