Biography
Valentin Silagi was born on April 19, 1957 in the commune of Bobylna , the county of Cluj . He achieved his first serious success in the ring in 1979, when in the second middle weight he won a silver medal at the European Championships in Cologne. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow - in the quarterfinal with a score of 3: 2 defeated Briton Mark Kaylor , a well-known professional boxer in the future, but at the semifinals stage, by unanimous decision, he lost to Cuban José Gomez , who in the end, and became the Olympic champion.
Having received the bronze Olympic medal, Silagi continued to enter the ring as part of the national team for some time, taking part in major international tournaments. So, in 1981, he visited the European Championship in Tampere, from where he brought a bronze medal. Shortly after these competitions, he decided to end his career as an athlete and left the national team. After the end of his sports career he emigrated to Germany, where he took up coaching activities. For many years he was the personal trainer of the Yugoslav German European champion Luan Krasniqi [1] .
