Colleen Zenk ( born Colleen Zenk , born January 20, 1953 ) is an American actress with a career in soap operas and Broadway musicals. Zenk is best known for her role as Barbara Ryan in the CBS daily soap opera How the World Turns , where she starred from 1978 to 2010, right up to the show's finale [1] . For 32 years in a soap opera, her character, who initially began her career as a heroine and eventually turned into a vicious “mother from hell,” survived despite a fatal wound in her heart, was kidnapped 15 times, survived a chemical explosion, nine marriages and a jump from the third floor . For her role in soap, Zenk was nominated three times for the Daytime Emmy Award for Best Actress in a drama series , including in 2011, for the show’s last season [2] .

Zenk was born in Barrington, Illinois. In addition to soap opera, throughout her career she was active on the stage, where she performed in a number of musicals. On the big screen, she appeared in the 1982 musical “ Annie ”, and on television she starred in the 1993 film “Women on the Edge” with soap opera actresses Didry Hall and Leslie Charlson [3] . Zenk's personal life was not much different from the plot of the soap opera. In 2007, she survived the fight against throat cancer, and in 2010 she divorced her husband, soap opera actor Mark Pinter, after 23 years of marriage, due to his betrayal [1] .
