Biography
He began to actively engage in boxing in early childhood, was trained at the local sports club "Berliner". The first serious success in the ring was in 1976, when he won the silver medal of the adult championship of the GDR, losing only to the current champion, Bernd Wittenburg . A year later, he won the first place in the national championship, a year later he repeated this achievement and went to the World Cup in Belgrade, from where he brought a bronze medal (in the semifinal he lost to Tadiy Kachar from Yugoslavia). In 1979, he boxed at the European Championships in Cologne, but was left without medals, in the second match in the tournament with a score of 2: 3 he lost to the representative of Germany Kurt Seiler .
Thanks to a series of successful performances, Bauch won the right to defend the country's honor at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow - he managed to reach the stage of the semi-finals, and there in the second round he was prematurely defeated by Yugoslav Slobodan Kachar , who eventually became the Olympic champion. After receiving a bronze Olympic medal, Herbert Bauh did not stay in the national team for long. The last time he represented the GDR team at international tournaments in 1981 - in a match meeting with the Polish national team he could not defeat his opponent, and soon after these competitions he decided to end his athlete's career.
