Iwan (Johann Konrad) Fedorovich Giltebrandt ( Johann Konrad Hiltebrandt ; June 25 ( July 7 ) 1806 - October 7 ( 19 ), 1859 , Moscow ) - Russian physician, professor at the Moscow Medical and Surgical Academy (also served as professor at Moscow University ), current State Councilor , son of Professor Fyodor Andreevich Giltebrandt .

Biography

He received his general education at the Petrovsky Lutheran School, on November 4 ( 16 ), 1818 , he entered the post- graduate students of Moscow University . After spending 2 years at the verbal department, he moved to the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and was twice awarded medals for essays on anatomical topics: June 5 ( 17 ), 1821 - silver, and July 4 ( 16 ) 1823 - gold.

After spending another five years at the medical department, he completed the course in 1827 with a doctor. March 13 ( 25 ), 1829 after passing the exam and defending a dissertation [1] approved by the doctor of medicine. On August 2 ( 14 ), 1830 , he was appointed assistant professor, head of the surgical institute. On October 5 ( 17 ), 1830, he headed the cholera hospital at Moscow University. On May 14 ( 26 ), 1832 , for improvement in surgery, he was sent abroad for a year, from where he returned on March 13 ( 25 ), 1833 .

September 20 ( October 2 ), 1833 was determined as an adjunct of the surgical clinic of the Moscow branch of the Medical and Surgical Academy. Here, his duties included training students in the production of operations on corpses. In the absence of Professor Paul, Giltebrandt corrected the position of professor, read to students of the 4th year operational surgery under the guidance of Solomon and Rklitsky. September 3 ( 15 ), 1838 approved by the extraordinary professor at the Academy.

At the same time, Giltebrandt worked at Moscow University, where he was determined as an adjunct on November 12 ( 24 ), 1833 . From 1834–35 taught, in the then terminology, akiurgy, or "the science of bloody surgical operations" (that is, about invasive surgical interventions) and taught students operations on corpses. With the introduction of the new charter in 1836, he was appointed adjunct in operative surgery, surgical anatomy, and practical exercises in the surgical clinic under Professor Inozemtsev .

In 1838/39, in addition to clinical studies, he read general akiurgy, the doctrine of minor surgery, operations of aneurysms and amputations; in 1839/40 he corrected the position of professor for the absence of Inozemtsev, in 1840/41 he returned to his previous studies. On May 13 ( 25 ), 1842 , he was approved as a doctor of medicine and surgery. December 31, 1843 ( January 12, 1844 ) was promoted to state councilors . In 1844, in the absence of prof. Evenius taught ophthalmology and desmurgia (part of the surgery that describes the methods of dressing).

Dismissed from the post at the Academy on the occasion of its closure on August 1 ( 13 ), 1845 . September 26 ( October 8 ), 1846 , was dismissed according to a petition from service at the university, and on December 7 ( 19 ), 1846 , he was approved as assistant chief doctor of the Moscow Military Hospital .

Giltebrandt was one of the first Russian surgeons to start using various methods of pain relief. At the Moscow Military Hospital, he successfully performed a number of operations (amputation of the lower leg, etc.) under chloroform and ether anesthesia: these operations were noted by N.I. Pirogov .

On April 11 ( 23 ), 1847 , Giltebrandt was appointed inspector of the feldsher school at the Orphanage . In 1854, he was seconded to the exemplary hospital and to the head doctor of the reserve troops in Moscow. In 1855, Mr .. dismissed from service under the authority of the Board of Trustees; retired in 1857

He died on October 7 ( 19 ), 1859. He was buried in Moscow at the Vvedensky cemetery [1] .

Translated from German works by I. Jungken “A Guide to the Study of Eye Diseases and Diagnostic Tables of its Inflammation” (M. 1836) and “The Doctrine of Eye Diseases” (2 hours; 1st ed. - M. 1841; 2nd ed. . - M. 1858).

He published his monograph: “On the Recognition and Treatment of Aneurysms and on the Artery Ligation Operation” (M. 1842).
