Potiskum [1] ( eng. Potiskum ) is a city and local government district in northeastern Nigeria , in the state of Yobe .

History
May 3, 2012 in the city there was a terrorist attack . Militants bombarded visitors and traders in the city market with improvised explosive devices. As a result, 34 people died [2] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southwestern part of the state, near the administrative border with the state of Bauchi , north of the River (right tributary of the Benue River). The absolute height is 473 meters above sea level [3] . Potiskum is located approximately 92 kilometers west of Damatur , the state’s administrative center, and 485 kilometers northeast of Abuja , the country's capital.

According to 2012 estimates , the population of Potiskum was 182,754 people [4] .

The motorway runs through the city. The nearest airport is Bajoga [3] .
