In the main compartment of the wardrobe is usually located one or more bars, on which clothes are hung on hangers . The bar can be located both parallel to the cabinet doors, and perpendicularly. In the first case, the cabinet depth must be at least 600 mm, which is determined by the standard width of the hangers, and in the second case it can be reduced, but the rods in such a cabinet are made retractable.

In addition to the main compartment, shelves , drawers and mezzanines are arranged in wardrobes. A shelf for hats can be placed above the bar, mirrors are installed on the doors, as well as crossbars and shelves for storing ties , belts and other small things.

Shelves and drawers of a wardrobe are usually designed for light loads and are not designed to store dishes , books , etc.

The appearance of a cabinet for storing clothes in Russia dates back to the period of the reforms of Peter I, but only by the end of the 19th century did it really spread among the masses. Until that time, only nobles could afford to have a wardrobe. A manufacturer from Moscow by the name of Slavyanov popularized the wardrobe. His Slavyanovsky cabinets were released until the middle of the 20th century.
