Biography
In his youth, he played for the sports community Alexander Community Association Team in Wailuku . Then he entered Ohio University and began playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes club. During the Second World War he served in the US Navy.
Set seven world records; During his career, he won 14 US titles and 6 - the NCAA . At the Summer Olympics in London (1948) he won two gold medals: at a distance of 400 m freestyle and 4 × 200 m freestyle (with a new world record - 8: 46.0).
After graduating from Ohio University, he became captain of the Waikiki Beach surf team, was a swimming coach at the University of Hawaii, and for 25 years was the director of safety at the Parks and Recreation Department of Honolulu, responsible for rescue training. At the same time, he taught paid swimming classes at the Kamehameha Swim Club.
In 1966, he was introduced to the International Hall of Fame for Water Sports.
