Grigory Stepanovich Shmarovoz ( 1912 - 2001 ) - commander of a machine-gun platoon of the 29th Infantry Regiment of the 38th Infantry Division of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front , foreman. Hero of the Soviet Union .

Biography

Born on January 21, 1912 in the village of Umanskaya now in the Krasnodar Territory .

In the Red Army in 1938-1940 and from June 1941. At the front in World War II from August 1942. He distinguished himself when crossing the Dnieper River near the city of Kanev, Cherkasy region of the Ukrainian SSR [2] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, for exemplary execution of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown to the foreman, Shmarovoz Grigory Stepanovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [3] .

In 1946 he was demobilized. He lived in Krasnodar. He died on January 6, 2001.
