Biography
Born on September 25, 1925 in the village of Suvorovka (now the village of Petro-Nikolaevka, Lugansk region of Ukraine ). He worked as a driller at a mine in the village of Lotikovo . In 1942-1943 he was in occupation .
In the Red Army since February 1943. On the fronts of World War II also from February 1943. He fought on the South-Western , 1st and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. He participated in Belgorod-Kharkov and Poltava-Kremenchug offensive operations.
He distinguished himself in the battle for the Dnieper . On September 25, 1943, as part of an assault group, he crossed to the right bank of the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Pushkaryovka . Fire from a light machine gun covered the advancing landing units. He participated in repelling several German counterattacks.
For the exemplary performance of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 20, 1943, the Red Army guard Obednyak Nikolai Ivanovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal.
Lieutenant Colonel N.I. Obednyak was transferred to the reserve in July 1970. He lived in Minsk . He died in Minsk on February 27, 2008.
