History
The castle was built in the middle of the 17th century, probably during the Vitebsk governor Pavel Sapega .
Earthen fortifications with bastions were erected on the high right bank of the Pulva River . The castle was surrounded on all sides by water. From the northeast, where the gates were located, there was a wide pond. A drawbridge was built across it, leading to a two-story brick tower with three gates located in the depth of the earthworks. It housed the guardroom , arsenal and lifting mechanism of the bridge. To the right and left of the gate were two powerful bastions and two curtains . Small bastions were also from the north and from the west. There was a wooden palace and utility rooms on the big castle Dytynets .
During the Russian-Polish war of 1654–1667 and the Northern War, the castle suffered greatly, but was later restored.
Current State
The earthen ramparts of the castle and the ruins of its gates have survived to our time. Archaeological studies of the fortifications of Vysokovsky castle were carried out in 1977 under the direction of M. A. Tkachev .
