Historical background
The temple was built on the site of a square in the courtyard of the College of Music. V.I.Safonova on the very spot where the temple in honor of the Protection of the Mother of God was located - the first in the city of Mineralnye Vody. The temple was built “in memory of the miraculous salvation of Sovereign Emperor Alexander III and His August Family on October 17, 1888” (then a railway accident involving the tsar’s train took place near Kharkov ).
Funds for the construction were donated mainly by employees of the Vladikavkaz railway. In February 1900, the temple was solemnly consecrated by Bishop of Vladikavkaz and Mozdok Vladimir (Sinkovsky) . On the same day, the Archpastor sent a telegram to Emperor Nicholas II , to which the sovereign answered with words of sincere gratitude. The new church then became one of the largest and most beautiful in the Caucasian Mineral Waters , and its parish was distinguished by an active parish life and multiplicity.
Destroyed in 1936.
