Biography

He studied at the Moscow Institute of Railways and Communications (MIIT) in the field of engineering and construction. After graduating from 1960 to 1965 works on the Gorky Railway (GZD). Under the guidance of Professor G. M. Shakhunyants, in 1968 he defended the dissertation of a candidate of technical sciences. The dissertation was based on the experience of designing and building railways in the karst territories of the Nizhny Novgorod region. He devotes most of his life to solving problems of engineering karstology (construction and operation of structures in karst areas). It is considered one of the founders of this scientific direction.

Since 1969 he has been working in the Dzerzhinsk karst laboratory under the direction of A.N. Ilyin, studying the stochastic laws of the formation of karst dips. In parallel with work (1971-77), he gives lectures at the Nizhny Novgorod Civil Engineering Institute (now NNGASU ). In 1988, he headed the Dzerzhinsky Karst Laboratory, which in 1991 became an independent state-owned enterprise, “Anti-Karst and Coastal Defense,” and since 2002, has held the honorary position of Chief Scientific Officer at the Anti-Karst and Coastal Defense OJSC. Since 2009, becomes Director of Science. With teams of scientists - builders, geologists and ecologists, he develops in practice theoretical methods for assessing the risk of dangerous geological processes.

He is the author of more than 250 scientific papers, of which the books “Engineering karstology” (1990) and “Engineering and construction development of karst territories” (1986) [1] . Throughout his life he has been involved in the development of almost all regulatory and methodological documents on research and design in karst areas (12 works), including the draft National Standard for the civil engineering development of karst territories.

He is a member of the honorary participants of the International ( ISSMGE ) and Russian Geotechnical Societies ( ROMGGiF ), the International Association of Geotechnical Engineers ( IAIG ) and the Russian Scientific Society of Risk Analysis. He participated in many domestic and foreign international conferences (USA, China, Germany, France, Serbia, Slovenia) on engineering geology, geomorphology, design and construction, forecasting of dangerous geological processes, etc.

From 2009 to 2013 - President of SRO "Engineering and geological surveys in construction." Member of the Council of the NOIZ ( National Association of Prospectors) [2] .

Currently, he is a professor at the UNESCO Chair ( NNGASU ) [3] . He is an expert on the issue of raising the Cheboksary reservoir .

Rewards

  • In 1967 he received a gold medal from VDNKh for the publication of the idea of stochastic laws of formation of karst dips;
  • Honorary builder of Russia;
  • In 2007, the ROMGGiF awarded him for the successes in solving the problems of construction in karst areas with the medal of Professor N. M. Gersevanov, the founder of Russian geotechnics.
