History

In 1924, the Gorno-Altai Vicariate was established (called possible in the Gorno-Altai district , which existed in 1920-1922) of the Altai Metropolis , which was then led by Metropolitan Makarii (Nevsky) . Consecrated on August 29, 1924 in Moscow, Bishop Vasily (Dokhturov) arrived in Altai only in mid-January 1925, by the decision of the community he was assigned a churchhouse. [one]

However, on July 24, 1925, he petitioned the Patriarchal Locum Tenens Metropolitan Peter (Polyansky) for another appointment. [2] After this, the department was not replaced [3] .

On October 2, 2013, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church (Journal No. 112), the Gorno-Altai and Chemal diocese formed within the administrative borders of the Altai Republic were allocated from the Barnaul diocese [4] .
