Biography

Born September 14, 1907 in the city of Kustanai ( Kazakhstan ) in a working class family. Russian. From an early age he lived in the city of Sevastopol with his older sister, worked as an apprentice. In the 1920s he graduated from the evening rabfak.

In 1929 - 1930 he served in the railway troops of the Red Army in the Byelorussian SSR . After leaving, he entered the Leningrad Metallurgical Institute , graduated from 2 courses. Here in 1932 he joined the CPSU (b) . In 1933 he was again mobilized into the army. He served as platoon and company commander in the 14th railway regiment. In 1938 he graduated from the Military Transport Academy.

He met the Great Patriotic War as a military commissar of the 5th railway brigade, then was deputy commander - head of the political department of the brigade. In early 1942, Colonel Bakarev assumed command of the brigade, replacing General Pavel Kabanov , who had left for promotion, who later became the leader of the USSR Railways .

In the summer of 1942, units of the 5th railway brigade under the command of Colonel Bakarev provided the work of the Voronezh railway junction. On the Ostrozhka-Grafskaya section, about ten thousand cars were accumulated. They crammed all the dead ends, access roads, loaded trains stretched for kilometers. At this difficult moment, the ability and ability of Pyotr Ivanovich to organize personnel for the fulfillment of the assigned task, to make quick and correct decisions was especially manifested.

In difficult conditions, under enemy fire, when part of Voronezh was already in the hands of the enemy, echelons left the station one by one. Sometimes the interval between trains was 100-200 meters. At the same time, work was underway to restore tracks, repair and equip locomotives. Within 6 days the evacuation operation was completed. Only from the Otrozhka station 73 steam locomotives, 450 passenger and 5800 freight cars were taken out.

In 1943, when the troops of the Bryansk Front went on the offensive, the brigade of Colonel Bakarev conducted reconstruction work on the sections Voronezh - Kastornaya , Kastornaya - Stary Oskol , Kastornaya - Kursk and many others. Recovery was carried out in difficult conditions. The enemy continuously bombed and fired artillery at the work site. Destroyed objects were heavily mined. Following the advancing units, brigade units participated in the construction of bridges across such large rivers as the Dnieper and the Sejm.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 5, 1943, Colonel Pyotr Bakarev, Pyotr Ivanovich, was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor for special merits in providing transportation for the front and the national economy and outstanding achievements in restoring the railway industry in difficult wartime conditions.

From February 1944 until the end of the war, Bakarev was the head of the Department of Military Restoration Work No. 9 and commanded the railway troops of the 2nd Belorussian Front . The UVVR-9 units provided two railway directions of the Western European gauge: Dzialdovo - Thorn - Bydgoszcz - Neustettin - Stargard - Piritz and Naselsk - Thorn - Bydgoszcz - Schneidemül - Stargard.

On June 8, 1945, Bakarev was awarded the military rank of " Major General of the Technical Forces." [one]

After the victory, Pyotr Ivanovich commanded the 4th and 2nd railway corps. From 1954 to 1955 he was on a business trip to the PRC . Since 1955, he was the chief engineer - deputy chief of the Main Directorate of Railway Troops (GUZHV), since 1961 - the chief engineer of the railway troops, deputy chief of the railway troops for technical matters. Having rich experience in the restoration of railways during the Great Patriotic War, outstanding organizational skills, and the talent of a scientist, P. I. Bakarev was able to create a team of scientists, designers, practitioners, develop principles for the operation of troops in a nuclear missile war, and lay the technical base that and today it largely determines the production capabilities of the main parts.
