Biography
Orthodox. The son of a headquarters officer .
After graduating from St. Petersburg 6th Gymnasium with a gold medal in 1876, he entered the Imperial St. Petersburg University , where he received a gold medal for the essay "On the balance of floating bodies in heavy liquids." At the end of the course in 1880 he was left at the university to prepare for a professorship. Since November 1, 1882 he was a teacher of mathematics at the St. Petersburg 3rd Gymnasium .
In 1888 he was awarded a master's degree in applied mechanics for his thesis "On partial differential equations for non-free motion" and was appointed . Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Mechanics at the University of St. Vladimir . In 1890, he defended his doctoral dissertation at the University of Moscow “On the power function admitting these particular integrals,” and the next year he was approved as an ordinary professor in the department. In 1913 he was awarded the title of Honored Professor . He rose to the rank of State Councilor (1905), from the awards he had the Order of St. Stanislav 1st degree "for outstanding distinctions" (1911).
Since 1908, he also taught at the Kiev Women's Courses, since 1910 he was their director. In addition, he was an indispensable member of the Moscow Society of Lovers of Natural Sciences, a member of the Moscow Mathematical Society , a founding member and chairman of the Kiev Physics and Mathematics Society. Suslov's main area of interest is analytical mechanics ; in this subject he has compiled the fundamental course "Fundamentals of Analytical Mechanics", published in Kiev in 1900-1902.
Since 1919 he was a professor and then rector of the Odessa Polytechnic Institute . He died in 1935 in Odessa. He was married, had two daughters.
