About the album
The material of this album was originally recorded in 1991 with English lyrics for the demo “One more day” intended for Western labels. In 1992, the group had the opportunity to release a vinyl record, and for her, these compositions were redone and re-recorded, now with lyrics in Russian. The demo contained 8 songs, but only 7 were included in the record due to time constraints. The composition “Better Be High” in 1994 was included in the album “ I Stay ” entitled “New Life” [3] .
This album is very different from the previous recordings of the group. Under the influence of the 1991 album “ Metallica ”, Anatoly Krupnov decided to make the songs slower. In addition to the metal riffs, “pure” funky guitar parts appeared in the music [4] , and in general the sound became lighter. In many places bass guitar was used outside the box, sometimes Krupnov played with a slap [5] . Lyrics in a fairly concrete form tell about the surrounding reality, unlike previous recordings, where they were mostly symbolic. In one of the interviews of that period, Krupnov called the album “evil and cheerful” [6] .
Many fans of the group were surprised by such a dramatic change in style, some even accused the group of "pop-music". However, the album received very good reviews in the music press [7] , and today it is considered one of the best works of the group.
Anatoly Krupnov about the album:
“Why replay what has been before? I deliberately cleaned up what was in the old OBELISK. Yes, “Another Day” turned out to be the lightest of all previous albums (I specifically went for this), but it turned out to be much tougher and more rhythmic. It would be naive to believe that if there had been no break in two years (1988-1990), then the PR would continue to work in the old way. No, I would still logically come to "Another Day" ... And all these accusations of "commerce" and "popsization" ... Is "War" or "Here and Now", or "Road to Nowhere" - not heavy stuff? Yes, we have changed a lot - and I like it ... " [5]
On the songs from the album two video clips were shot. The first was made to the song "Road to Nowhere" based on concert and backstage filming, made November 13, 1992 in the Palace of Culture. Gorbunova, and the second clip - to the composition “Another Day (The Day is Over, and You're All Alive)”, which included fragments of a Moscow concert as part of the tour “Monsters of Rock around the Ruins of the Evil Empire” and a separate finishing session at one of the factories’s ceremonial accessories factories in Moscow . Both clips were edited by Ilya Kondenkov with the direct assistance of Oleg “Ozzy” Vdovin. Another clip was being prepared for the song “Kill them all,” but when it was filmed and practically assembled, the videotape was stolen from the studio under mysterious circumstances [3] .
The material was remastered and reissued in 2002 on CD by CD-Maximum label [8] .
