Bolshoy Kosogol is a village in the Kachugsky District of the Irkutsk Region of Russia . Included in the Biryulskogo municipality . It is located about 23 km south-east of the district center.

Toponymy
There is a legend among residents of the settlements of the Big Goals , Small Goals and Kosogol that they were founded by three brothers: big bare, small bare and slanting bare. Sometimes they add a fourth brother - barefoot naked, explaining with his nickname the name of the village of Bosogol . However, this legend is the fruit of folk etymology .
According to the assumption of a local historian and journalist Gennady Butakov, people from the shores of Lake Kosogol ( Khubsugul ), which are located in Mongolia, could establish a settlement [1] .
Population
According to the All-Russian census , in 2010, 107 people lived in the village (48 men and 59 women) [2] .
