Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Slovenia - Diplomatic Representative of the Holy See in Slovenia . This diplomatic post is held by the church-diplomatic representative of the Vatican as an ambassador . As a rule, in Slovenia the apostolic nuncio is a dual of the diplomatic corps , since Slovenia is a Catholic country. The Apostolic Nunciature in Slovenia was established on a permanent basis on February 8, 1992 , after the Holy See recognized the independence of Slovenia. Her residence is in Ljubljana .
Currently, the Apostolic Nuncio in Slovenia is Archbishop Jean-Marie Spis , appointed by Pope Francis on March 19, 2019 .
History
The Apostolic Nunciature in Slovenia, as a permanent nunciature, was established on February 8, 1992 , [1] after the Holy See recognized the independence of Slovenia that arose after the collapse of Yugoslavia .
The forerunner of the Apostolic Nunciature in Slovenia was the Apostolic Nunciature in Yugoslavia established in 1920 as the Apostolic Nunciature in the Kingdom of Serbia , and renamed in 1922 as the Apostolic Nunciature in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes . In 1929, it received the name Apostolic Nunciature in Yugoslavia . In 1950, demoted to the rank of Apostolic Delegate in Yugoslavia. However, on August 22, 1970, he was again promoted to the rank of Apostolic Nunciature.
