Biography

Born on November 9, 1916 in the village of Uspenka, now in the Lutuginsky district of the Lugansk region of Ukraine. As the German-Austrian forces approached the Donbass, the Shapovalov family moved to the city of Novorossiysk. He worked at the car repair plant depot.

In September 1938 he was drafted into the Red Army . In September 1939 he participated in a campaign of the Red Army in Western Ukraine. In the winter of 1939-1940 he participated in the Soviet-Finnish war.

In the battles of World War II from June 1941, he participated in defensive battles in Ukraine. Then he fought on the North-Western Front, from there he was transferred with a regiment to the region of Stalingrad. He participated in the Battle of Kursk, in the battle for the Dnieper, in the liberation of the Right-Bank Ukraine and Poland. Mostly flew Pe-2 aircraft.

By February 1944, it completed 182 successful sorties with the crews on reconnaissance and bombardment of enemy troops. In air battles personally shot down 3 aircraft. On July 1, 1944, the foreman Shapovalov Alexander Timofeevich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.

He lived in the city of Kazan, Tatarstan. Died July 29, 1976, was buried in Kazan.
