The spider was born in Budapest and entered the Franz Liszt Academy of Music at the age of nine. He studied with Imre Waldbauer in 1945. From 1947 to 1949 he studied with Janos Temesvari, since 1949 with Ede Zaturetsky , as well as with Zoltan Koday . After the suppression of the Hungarian uprising of 1956, he did not return to Hungary: at the same time, his triumphal march in European violin competitions began, starting from first place at the Third Paganini International Competition in 1956 (Spider and French Pule , who shared this award, became the first laureates in history competition, because in the previous two years the first prize was not awarded). This was followed, among other things, by the first prize at the Long and Thibault International Competition in Paris ( 1959 ).

Since 1961 , György Spider has lived in London, where he debuted a year later as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Lorin Maazel . Subsequently, Spider performed with such conductors as Pierre Boulez , Gennady Rozhdestvensky , Georg Solti and others. He is also a professor at the London Royal Academy of Music and the Winterthur Conservatory.

Spider’s repertoire successfully combines classical works (first of all, Mozart and Schubert ) with the works of modern composers: Lutoslavsky , Penderetsky , Schnittke and others.
