Biography
Igor Mashkov was born on February 23, 1924 in the city of Bakhmut . Ossetian by nationality [1] After graduating from nine grades of the school, he worked as a projectionist in Samarkand . In 1942, Mashkov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From the same year - on the fronts of World War II [2] .
By September 1943, the Red Army guard Igor Mashkov was a shooter of the 182nd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 62nd Guards Rifle Division of the 37th Army of the Steppe Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 28, 1943, Mashkov was one of the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Mishurin Rog of the Verkhnedneprovsky District of the Dnepropetrovsk Region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore. In those battles, he personally destroyed more than 30 enemy soldiers and officers [2] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1944, the Red Army soldier Igor Mashkov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [2] .
After the war, Mashkov was in the service of state security agencies, worked in Vinnitsa , Uzhgorod , Odessa . He died suddenly on May 6, 1961, and was buried in Odessa [2] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and a number of medals [2] .
