The 4-kilometer bridge connects the cities of Baytown and La Porte on Highway 146 ( Texas State Highway 146 ) [1] and is the longest cable-stayed bridge in Texas and seventy-seventh in the world. The bridge is named after Fred Hartman (1908-1991), the editor and publisher of the Baytown Sun newspaper from 1950 to 1974. The construction of the bridge cost $ 117.5 million and was carried out by URS Corporation [2] . The bridge was built on the site of the tunnel, which was dismantled in connection with the deepening of the Houston Shipping Canal.
