The Sound of Madness ( Rus. “Sound of Madness” ) is the third studio album of the American hard rock band Shinedown , released on June 24, 2008 by Atlantic Records . The release of the lead single " Devour " occurred on radio on May 5, 2008.

The Sound of Madness is the most successful Shinedown album. Over 1,000,000 copies were sold and the RIAA gave the record a platinum rating. Also, two singles from the album have achieved great success: “ If You Only Knew ” received gold status, and “ Second Chance ” became multi-platinum [3] .

Singles
The first single "Devour" was released on May 5, 2008. June 29, he became the main theme of the music WWE Night of Champions . Also this song has become the main theme in the reality show “ Avid extremes ”, broadcast by the MTV channel. “Devour” was included in the track list of the computer game Madden NFL 09 , and in the musical game Guitar Hero 5, the song can be downloaded in the Shinedown package along with the tracks “Second Chance” and “Sound of Madness” [4] .
The second single “Second Chance” was released on September 8, 2008, but three days before that the song was performed on the American talk show “ The Tonight Show with Jay Leno ” on NBC . Also, the song was included in the soundtrack of the television series " Terminator: Battle for the Future ." On December 27, 2008, Second Chance won the first place on the US Hot Mainstream Rock Chart and stayed on the leading position for 10 weeks, giving up that place on March 7, 2009 to the song of the Canadian band Nickelback . Two months later, the composition took the first place in the Alternative Songs weekly charts and occupied it three times, then giving way to another song, then again taking the leading position. The single reached first position on the Billboard 's Hot Adult Top 40 Chart on June 20, 2009. As a result, after successful sales, the single became multi-platinum .
“Sound of Madness” released on February 23, 2009, became the third single from the album and repeated the success of the previous song on the US Hot Mainstream Rock Chart [5] . The composition is included in the soundtrack Wrestlemania XXV .
The release of the fourth single “If You Only Knew” fell on August 31, 2009. The release of the video clip took place on October 6, 2009. Brent Smith wrote the lyrics for the song, telling it about the time when his bride was pregnant with his child.
"The Crow & the Butterfly" was Shinedown's latest single from the album The Sound of Madness , which premiered on radio on April 6, 2010. Brent Smith in an interview for Rockline said that he had an idea to write a song about a mother who lost her son, who is looking for meaning to live on.
