Biography

Georgy Pashkov was born on April 15, 1909 in the village of Mumra (now Ikryaninsky district of the Astrakhan region ). He graduated from the rabfak , after which he worked as an auxiliary worker in Astrakhan . In 1927 - 1929 he studied at the Astrakhan evening mechanical college, combined his studies with the work of a foreman, then deputy head of the workshop of the Astrakhan mechanical plant. In 1937, Pashkov graduated from the Leningrad Military Mechanical Institute , after which he remained working at the department of organization of production of this institute. Since 1939, Pashkov led the 2nd department of the USSR State Planning Commission [1] .

During the Great Patriotic War, Pashkov participated in organizing the evacuation of tank industry enterprises to Nizhny Tagil , Sormovo and Chelyabinsk . In January 1945, on a personal request from Stalin, he met with scout Kim Philby to give him the task of establishing the cause of the death of American pilots in Germany , one of which was Joseph Kennedy . After the war ended, Pashkov and Dmitry Ustinov led the export of equipment from German missile enterprises to the USSR. Pashkov also met again with Philby and gave him the task to take photocopies from the archives of Werner von Braun [1] .

In 1950, Pashkov was appointed Assistant Lawrence of Beria on nuclear missiles. In this position, he participated in organizing the explosion of a hydrogen bomb and launching a rocket with a nuclear warhead. Since 1955, he served as deputy chairman of the Military-Industrial Commission under the USSR Council of Ministers. His immediate responsibilities included overseeing the Ministries of General, Medium and Electronic Engineering. He participated in the planning of the construction of missile and control systems, preparations for the launch of the first artificial earth satellite and the flight of Yuri Gagarin [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 17, 1961, for “outstanding achievements in the creation of rocket technology and ensuring the successful flight of Soviet people into outer space,” Georgy Pashkov was awarded the high title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Hammer and Sickle Medal [ 1] .

In 1971, Pashkov retired. He worked as a scientific consultant at the Research Institute of Electronic Engineering, was a professor at the Moscow Aviation Institute and the Zelenograd Institute of Electronics. He died on February 20, 1993, was buried at the Kuntsevsky cemetery in Moscow [1] .

He was awarded three orders of Lenin, three orders of the Red Banner of Labor , two orders of the Red Star , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, a number of medals [1] .
