Biography
He was born on December 25, 1920 in the village of Prelestnoye, now in the Slavyansk region, Donetsk region of Ukraine. He worked as a turner at an engineering plant.
In the Red Army since 1940. On the fronts of World War II from June 1941.
January 28, 1943 as part of the battery repelled numerous enemy attacks. During the day, the calculation of N. I. Savchenko knocked out six tanks and did not allow the enemy to break through on his site. On April 28, 1943, for the exemplary fulfillment of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown at the same time, the guard Cossack Savchenko Nikolai Ilyich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal .
In 1946, N.I. Savchenko was demobilized. He lived and worked in the city of Slavyansk, Donetsk region. He died on January 30, 1985.
