Biography
Born in 1907 at the Archeda station (now the territory of the Volgograd region ). After graduating from seven classes of school, he worked at the locomotive depot, was a student of a locksmith, then became an assistant driver, a machinist at the Stalingrad-1 station of the Stalingrad Railway [1] .
From November 1941, Atamanov drove trains with military cargoes on the Moscow-District railway, often under air raids and bombardments. From February 1942 he worked on the line Stalingrad-Kachalino-Filonovo. During the Battle of Stalingrad he continued to lead convoys with military goods to combat units. In one of the flights, the Atamanov squad was attacked by enemy aircraft, however, by dropping, then picking up speed, he managed to prevent more than one bomb hit. At the end of June 1942, Atamanov was bombed at the Kachalino station and was seriously wounded. After the hospital, he was appointed head of the depot station Chir. In a relatively short period of time, he managed to restore the station and start skipping trains [1] .
Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on November 5, 1943 for "special merits in providing transportation for the front and the national economy and outstanding achievements in restoring the railway economy in difficult conditions of wartime" Nikolai Atamanov was awarded the high title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the Order of Lenin and medal "Sickle and Hammer" [1] .
Later, Atamanov continued to work as a passenger train driver on the Stalingrad railway. Participated in the construction of the Stalingrad hydroelectric station. Since 1962 - retired. Lived in Volgograd . He died in 1973 [1] .
Honorary railroad . He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and a number of medals [1] .
