The southern and part of the western part adjoined the fence of the Novo-Tikhvin nunnery . A building occupied by the Ural Mining Institute established in 1916 was built in the northwest corner of the square in 1911-1913.
Received the appropriate name due to the fact that the square was selling chips , carts, chests, boxes, barrels, sleds, mirrors, wallpaper, etc. Every year, on the day of the icon of Our Lady of Tikhvin , a fair was held on the square.
Nowadays the space of the square is occupied by the sports complex "Youth" .
