Biography
Born on March 24 ( April 5 ), 1903 [1] in the city of Temryuk of the Kuban region [2] . In 1920 he graduated from the Pyatigorsk Real College. In 1920-1928 he worked as a foreman, a technician and manufacturer of spa construction in the Kislovodsk spa administration. In 1926 he graduated from the Pyatigorsk College. In 1928-1929 he worked as a separate manufacturer of new construction works at the Kislovodsk railway junction. In 1931 he graduated from the Moscow Higher Technical School . In 1931-1933 - senior engineer of the Moscow branch of the association "Promstroyproekt".
In the army since November 1933. He served as an assistant commander of a separate military construction battalion in the technical part, as an assistant to the commander of a construction regiment in the technical part, as head of the production department and deputy chief engineer of the military building corps. He participated in the construction of industrial enterprises in the Far East and the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur . From October 1938, he was the chief engineer, and from 1939-1940, he was the head of the apartment maintenance department of the 1st Separate Red Banner Army (in the Far East ). In 1940-1941 - Head of the Housing and Maintenance Department of the Baltic Military District .
Member of the Great Patriotic War : in June 1941 - November 1942 - head of the apartment-operating department of the quartermaster’s administration of the North-Western Front . He participated in defensive battles in the Baltic states and on the distant approaches to Leningrad .
In November 1942 - April 1943 - head of the military-construction department of the Far Eastern Front ; in April 1943 - December 1944 - head of the military-construction department of the Far Eastern Front and the Pacific Fleet .
In December 1944 - May 1945 - head of the military-construction department of the Leningrad Front .
After the war, until December 1945 he was the head of the military-construction department of the Leningrad Military District . In 1945-1947 - Head of the construction and cantonment of troops of the Leningrad Military District .
In 1947-1948 - Deputy Head of the Main Construction Directorate of the Armed Forces of the USSR for production, in 1948-1949 - Head of the Military Construction Directorate of Moscow. In 1949-1952 - head of the Department of construction of buildings and structures of the Central Directorate of capital and airfield construction of the Armed Forces of the USSR, in 1952-1956 - head of the Department of engineering and airfield construction of the Air Force.
Since May 1956 - deputy chief of construction and cantonment of troops of the USSR Ministry of Defense.
For fulfilling a special task, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 29, 1969, Colonel-General of Engineering and Technical Services Nikolay Mikhailovich Popov was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal "Hammer and Sickle . "
Since December 1969, Colonel-General of the Engineering and Technical Service N. M. Popov - retired. In 1972-1978 he worked as a consultant at the Moscow Institute of Heat Engineering .
He lived in Moscow. He died on February 1, 1985 . He was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery in Moscow.
