The film is based on the 1979 memoirs “O Que É Isso Companheiro?” (“What's the matter, comrade?”), Written by politician Fernando Gabeira .

Content
Story
The film tells a story based on real events - the abduction of US Ambassador to Brazil Charles Elbric in 1969 by the October 8 Revolutionary Movement (MR-8), of which Gabeira and his associates were a member. Initially, the idea of capturing the ambassador with the condition of the release of 15 political prisoners belonged to Gabeira himself.

The film was nominated at numerous film festivals, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 1998 . The film was also presented in the competition program of the 47th Berlin International Film Festival in 1997 [1] .
