NHL 1989 All Star Game

The 40th NHL All-Star Game was held on February 7, 1989 at the Northlands Coliseum , home of the Edmonton Oilers . It was Wayne Gretzky’s first game for the Clarence Campbell conference team as a Los Angeles Kings player. Ironically, the game was held in the arena of his former club from Edmonton , where he was warmly greeted by the public, and in the team dressing room he was able to take his old place. Campbell’s conference coach, Glen Sater, put Gretzky on a par with former and current partners in the troika of attack, Jari Kurri and Luke Robitail . Writing 1 goal and 2 assists to his own account, Wayne Gretzky helped his team to win and was recognized as the best player of the match, and presented the prize car to former team-mate Dave Semenko. The result of 14 goals scored per game was a new record of performance for star matches.
