Biography

He was born on June 24, 1923 in the village of Vasilenkovo ​​now in the Shevchenkovsky district of the Kharkov region .

In the Red Army since 1941. At first he studied at radio engineering courses, then he was sent to the Kamyshin Tank School. Member of the Great Patriotic War since January 1943. Participated in battles on the Bryansk and Central Fronts. He fought on the Kursk , participated in the liberation of Belarus .

He especially distinguished himself on July 8, 1944 in battles on the outskirts of the city of Slonim, Grodno region . Destroyed 2 self-propelled guns, a mortar battery, and about 30 enemy soldiers and officers.

The title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal to the guard was assigned to Lieutenant Sukhomlin Ivan Mikhailovich on August 22, 1944 for courage and heroism shown in battles.

In 1963 he received the degree of candidate of military sciences and was left at the academy as a teacher. From 1965 to 1967 he was in Cuba. Since 1985, Major General Sukhomlin in stock. He lived in Moscow. He died on January 29, 2002.
