Biography

According to various sources, Alexander Ionin was born in 1834 or 1835 [1] . In 1859, he graduated from a course at St. Petersburg University as a candidate of historical and philological faculty and was appointed teacher of the Latin language at the Larin Gymnasium . Then he was sent abroad for scientific purposes, and upon his return was a teacher at the 3rd St. Petersburg Gymnasium (1865-1868); in 1867 he was appointed an extraordinary professor at the Philological Institute and also in 1867-1871 he held the post of secretary in it.

In 1875, due to illness, he left the service. Ionin was known as an excellent expert and teacher of the Latin language; he knew how to truly teach his students his subject and enjoyed their great sympathies and respect.
