Khojaev, Khalid Said

Khalid-Said Khodjaev was born in 1888 in the village of Kosh-Kurgan, near Tashkent . He received his primary education in the madrasah of Tashkent. A great desire to study led him to Turkey , where in 1914 he entered Istanbul University at the Faculty of Medicine. After studying there for 2 years, Khalid-Seid transferred to the Faculty of History and Philology, completing his education in 1918.

In 1918, Khalid Said came from Turkey to Azerbaijan , where he began teaching at secondary and higher educational institutions of Ganja and Baku , later he joined the Azerbaijan branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. After the national-territorial demarcation in Central Asia ( 1924 ), Khojaev also worked in the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan , taking an active part in organizing the training of young Uzbek specialists in educational institutions of Azerbaijan.

Khalid-Said Khodjaev was one of the organizers and delegate of the First Turkological Congress in Baku (1926). Fluent in 12 languages. He is the author of a large number of scientific works on Turkic linguistics, as well as the first translation of the dictionary of East Turkestan philologist Mahmoud al-Kashgari , "Divan-Lugat-at-Turk." In 1937, Khalid-Said Khojaev was arrested on suspicion of counter-revolutionary activity and executed in October of that year.

In Azerbaijan, Khodjaev married Sitar Rza-gyzy Talyshinsky. Their daughter is Bahija Khodjaev-Mammadov.

• Khodjaev translated the dictionary of Mahmud al-Kashgar, “Sofa-Lugat-at-Turk” ^[1], into Azerbaijani.
• He is the author of a large number of works on the style, syntax and grammar of Turkic languages, the grammar of the Persian language.
• Translated ancient Turkic Orkhon inscriptions ^[2] .
• Khojaev spoke 12 languages, including Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Russian and others.
• He took an active part in organizing events to translate the written language of the Turkic languages ​​from Arabic to the Latin alphabet ^[3] , setting out in detail the history of the issue in his book “Memoirs on the work of the new alphabet” (“Yeni elifba yolunda seyahet”, Baku, 1929); He participated in the preparation and conduct of the First Turkological Congress in Baku (1926), was a delegate to the congress.
