Dorman, Lee

Douglas Lee Dorman ( born Douglas Lee Dorman ; September 15, 1942 - December 21, 2012) is an American bass player, best known as a member of the bands Iron Butterfly and Captain Beyond [2] [3] .

Biography

Born in St. Louis , Missouri . In 1960, he moved to San Diego , California . As a teenager, he began to play the bass. In 1967, along with guitarist Eric Brann, joined the band Iron Butterfly and participated in the recording of the album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida . During the recording of the album, Dorman helped Brann arrange the song “Termination,” which he co-wrote. In 1971, Lee Dorman, along with guitarist Larry Reinhardt and former lead singer of Deep Purple , Rod Evans, created the band Captain Beyond , in which he played until 1973 [4] . After that, Dorman for some time moved away from the music industry. In 1977, he returned to the reformed lineup of Iron Butterfly, where he played with short interruptions until his death in 2012. At the same time, Lee became a member of the updated Captain Beyond lineup, with which she recorded her latest album, Dawn Explosion .

Dorman died a natural death in his car in Laguna Nigel, California [5] .
